Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-04-27
This privacy policy explains how the Sorcha documentation website (www.sorcha.dev) handles cookies and analytics. It applies only to this site — running Sorcha software on your own infrastructure is outside the scope of this notice.
What we collect
When you visit a page on this site we may collect:
- Page views: which page you opened, when, and the referring page.
- Anonymous device characteristics: browser, operating system, approximate region (country / city level), screen size.
- Session data: a randomly generated session identifier so we can see how you move between pages within a single visit.
We do not collect:
- Your name, email address, or any other directly identifying personal information.
- Your precise location.
- Any cross-site tracking signals or advertising identifiers.
How we collect it
We use Google Analytics 4 with Consent Mode v2.
- Before you accept the consent banner, GA runs in cookieless mode: it sends pings that include only the data above without storing any cookie or persistent identifier on your device.
- If you accept, GA additionally stores a cookie (
_ga) used to distinguish unique visitors and a session cookie (_ga_*) used to group page views into sessions. IP addresses are anonymised (anonymize_ip: true). - If you decline, the cookieless mode continues; no additional cookies are dropped.
You can change your choice at any time by clearing your browser's storage for www.sorcha.dev — the banner will reappear on the next visit and let you choose again.
Why we collect it
To understand which documentation pages are useful, where readers get stuck, and which areas need attention. The lawful basis is your explicit consent (UK GDPR Art 6(1)(a)) for the cookie-bearing mode, and our legitimate interest in improving documentation (Art 6(1)(f)) for the cookieless mode.
How long we keep it
Google retains analytics data for 2 months by default (we have not extended this). Aggregated reports derived from that data may be kept indefinitely but contain no individual records.
Who else sees it
The data goes to Google as our analytics processor. Google may process it on servers in the United States; transfers are covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and equivalent UK adequacy decisions where applicable.
We do not share analytics data with advertising networks, social media platforms, or any other third party.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Withdraw consent at any time (clear cookies for this site).
- Request a copy of any personal data we hold about you (we hold none beyond the anonymised analytics described above).
- Request erasure or correction of any data.
- Lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (https://ico.org.uk).
